Punjab Kings had set a target of 202 runs in front of Kolkata Knight Riders on the basis of the century partnership of Prabhasimran Singh and Priyansh Arya. Prabhsimran Singh played the highest innings of 83 runs for him. At the same time, Priyansh scored 69 runs. Vaibhav Arora took two wickets for Kolkata while Varun and Russell took one wicket each.
Under-rated player Singh
Prabhsimran Singh is one of those under-rated players who have been consistently performing well in the IPL since 2023, yet no one is watching him. Singh scored 358 runs in 2023 and 334 runs in 2024 and has scored 292 runs in nine matches so far in the current season. Even before the IPL, Singh has shown wonders. He surprised everyone by scoring a record 298 runs in 301 balls in the 2018-19 season of the Cooch Behar Trophy. He also scored 404 runs in the 2024-25 season of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
The Punjab team management, however, understood the importance of this wicket-keeper batsman of Patiala and retained him. Singh played a brilliant innings of 83 runs off 49 balls against Kolkata, which included six fours and six sixes. This is the second fifty of Singh in the current session.
Priyansh, who is loved by everyone,
as a ‘six hitting machine’ in the cricket circuit of Delhi, 24-year-old Priyansh is proving his ability match-by-match. In the Delhi Premier League, he had shown that the IPL was waiting for him by hitting six sixes in six balls. In the first season of IPL, he started with a century instead of a half-century and completed his first fifty of the season against Kolkata and the IPL. His innings of 35 balls included eight fours and four sixes.
Priyansh-Prabhasimran’s century partnership
Priyansh and Prabhsimran laid the foundation of a big score by giving Punjab a great start. He took his team’s score beyond 100 in just 62 balls. Both thrashed the Kolkata bowlers and added 120 runs in 70 balls for the first wicket. Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 25 off 16 balls. Glenn Maxwell failed again and he scored 7 runs in 8 balls. 3 runs came off Marco Yansen’s bat. Josh English remained unbeaten on 6 runs.
