‘Kesari Chapter 2’ – This is the story of a man who shook the foundations of the British Empire while being a part of it. This man, who was once called loyal to the British, became a rebel and then started a movement for which he neither picked up the sword nor the pen, he just used his legal rights to fight for justice and defeated the British rule in the court of the people.
This is the story of Sir S Shankaran Nair, who shook the ground under the feet of the British with his rebellious decision. Akshay Kumar is playing this character in the film. The film has a team of brilliant actors like Ananya Pandey, R Madhavan, Amit Sial and Moumita Pal. The film has been released in theaters today. How is the story
Before starting the review, I would like to emphasize that this story will make every Indian proud. The story begins on 13 April 1919, when a group of demonstrators peacefully assemble at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar to protest against the Rowlatt Act. General Dyer arrives at the scene with his armed troops and orders to open fire on the unarmed people without warning. Thousands are executed. For the next several hours, the bodies are left at the scene for eagles and crows to feed on. The press is prevented from writing anything about it. The government’s version is printed on the front page of the newspaper, which states that the demonstrators were armed terrorists who had to open fire because they were being attacked. On one hand the press was silenced, while on the other hand people were enraged. The British government found a solution to this too, on one hand distributing compensation of Rs 25 and on the other hand ordering a fake inquiry into the matter. Sir C. Shankaran Nair, who was recently knighted, was also part of this inquiry.
The British government sets up an inquiry commission. Sir C Shankaran Nair (Akshay Kumar) is the only Indian in this commission who has full faith in the British justice system. The Crown already admits that he will work as a puppet for them. During the investigation, the British government suppresses the facts related to the case. Meanwhile, Nair falls in love with a young revolutionary boy, Pargat Singh (Krishna Rao). Nair’s old connection with this man comes to the fore. We will not end the suspense by revealing what it is, but this young man brings a twist in the story, which changes the thinking of Sir C Shankaran Nair and the death of this 13-year-old boy makes him stand as a voice against the greatest ruler. After this, Nair meets Dilreet Gill (Ananya Pandey). Nair actually has a change of heart after meeting this junior barrister. The story changes completely and the courtroom drama begins. Neville McKinley (R. Madhavan) fights General Dyer’s case against Nair. Meanwhile, everyone is made to dance on the fingers of an Indian who happens to be a sycophant of the British government (Amit Syal). Shankaran and Neville’s old relationship between them acts as fuel to the fire and its effect is seen in the court. Now to see whether Shankaran Nair is able to get justice for the innocent people killed in Jallianwala Bagh or not, you have to watch the film.
Direction, Screenplay with Illustration
‘Kesari Chapter 2’ is based on the book ‘The Case That Shook the Empire: One Man’s Fight for the Truth About the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre‘ by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat. The film has not been fully documented, if it was done then the story would have been boring. This story has been presented with full emotion. Pain, tears, screams and the grief of losing loved ones is screaming on the screen in every scene. The beginning of the story captivates the audience. 20-30 minutes of time has not been taken, but the director’s focus from the very first scene is to make the audience teary-eyed and it won’t be wrong to say that he has been completely successful in this. If the beginning of the film was excellent, then the climax of the film is no less, it will force every Hindustani to clap, whistle, shout slogans of Inquilab Zindabad and Bharat Mata ki Jai in the theatre. Now talking about the characters, the film is not limited to ‘Ek Bhi Bhaag Mein’, ‘Sahi Maanta Mein Sahi Panne Khulte Hain’, every actor has been given a full opportunity to get into his character. Even if it is a small role of Jan Nisar Akhtar. The story of Karan Singh Tyagi and Amritpal Singh Bindra is incredible. Both of them deserve every praise. The film keeps you hooked at every turn and in the end leaves you hoping that these British will finally apologize. The moments of confrontation between R Madhavan and Akshay Kumar are interesting. The dialogues written by Sumit Saxena will hit your heart and mind. You will not be able to stop yourself from jumping out of your seat and clapping after listening to some dialogues.
Karan Singh Tyagi’s direction is simple, straightforward, precise and in the right direction, which does not deviate the story from the purpose anywhere. At the basic level it will seem that it is the story of a fight between a hero and a villain, but in a few moments it becomes the story of the fight of the whole country. The arrival of new actors one after the other and presenting it in a sequential manner takes the story forward. It pours. From the Martha Stevens track to the climax, the thrill increases every moment, because the story is related to history, so it is natural that many people know it, but still there is no lack of thrill in the story.
Now coming to the portrayal of the film which is making this story more impressive. The background score of the film is so strong in many places that you will get goosebumps and even you will shudder. There are only three songs in the film, but each has been used to give background music and emotion. Kesari’s famous song ‘Teri Mitti‘ will also be heard in the film. Apart from this, ‘Kitthe Gaya Tu Saiyan’ and ‘Shera’ decided the pace of the story. The cinematography of the film deserves special praise. The angle of the camera has been used correctly. Zoom and Extreme Zoom shots have been taken at some places. The scenes of the massacre have been filmed brilliantly. During the entry of Shankaran Nair, the brightness of the sun’s rays has been used well. Also, it is a well edited film, which has been further refined by good cinematography. Debojit Ray’s cinematography and Nitin Baid’s editing are commendable. It would not be wrong to say that VFXs are low but of high class.
How are the actors acting
Acting cannot be questioned. Akshay Kumar has returned to his old glory. They are fantastic. He has often been accused of dialogue delivery, it is said that his flow breaks because he speaks TP, but this time Akshay has left no stone unturned to prove these claims wrong. He has the most impressive dialogues on his part and he has presented it in the perfect style. His strong acting has further enhanced the powerful dialogues. ‘Kesari Chapter 2’ is a setback for those who questioned his merits. Ananya Pandey has proved this time that Starkid can also have talent. The manner in which she has presented her side in the court in the ongoing case with Martha Stevens, it is being proved that she will be counted among the best actresses in the times to come. He has done justice to innocence, pain and reaction, bringing all three emotions on screen.
Now come actor R Madhavan, his entry is just before the interval, but his real mood is visible after the interval. They come late, but come right. They are covered by the entrance. Fire and excitement can be seen in his eyes. Krish Rao’s character is important and he is leaving a deep impression even in a small role. Amit Syal (Tirath Singh) is as brilliant and effective as always. He is giving strength to the story. Steven Hartley (judge McCardy), Sammy Jonas Heaney (Harold Laxie; jury member), Mark Bennington (Michael O’Daire), Alex O’Neil (Lord Chelmsford), Rohan Verma (Jan Nisar), Alexandra Moloni (Martha Stevens), Jaypreet Singh (Kripal Singh) and Luke Kenny (Judge of the Court of Appeal) have also done excellent performances.
Why watch this movie
‘Kesari Chapter 2’ is a must watch film. It is a story of truth, justice and suffering, presented with complete sincerity. This story, which tells an untold and shocking chapter of Indian history, must be given a chance. We are giving 4 stars to this film.
