Along with space tourism, this company is also developing long term space infrastructure including reusable rockets and moon landing systems.

Six women, including pop singer Katy Perry, traveled to space on April 14 in Blue Origin’s New Shepard suborbital vehicle. This was the 11th manned flight of the New Shepard program. They made this journey by a rocket of American industrialist Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin company. The rocket took off from the Van Horn launch pad in Texas at 7 pm. The mission returned after about 11 minutes.  This mission is part of the New Shepard program of Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin company, named NS-31. This was America’s first space flight in which every seat was occupied by women. It was the first all-female space trip since 1963. In the 64-year history of human space flight, only one other flight of female astronauts had left for space in 1963. At that time, Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova flew alone into space, becoming the first woman to go into space.

Who all were part of the crew?

Blue Origin‘s New Shepard rocket took off from West Texas. The rocket reached an altitude of about 105 kilometers, where the passengers got the experience of living without gravity for a few minutes. The flight lasted about 14 minutes. The leader of this flight was Jeff Bezos’ partner Lauren Sanchez, who is herself a helicopter pilot and former TV journalist. He chose special guests for this flight.

Lauren Sanchez had taken a special device with her

Lauren Sanchez had also taken a small device with her. Which kept flying under her seat during the space visit. This device was made by the American NGO ‘Flown for Teachers in Space’. The purpose was to record sound, temperature and pressure so that school children could understand what the experience of flying New Shepard is like.

Katy Perry shared the experience

At the same time, after returning from space, Katy Perry said that this flight gave her a sense of belonging. She also said that it was not about the destination but about the journey, which gave her a chance to appreciate life more. Perry said, ‘This is the highest level and it is a dedication to the unknown, trust. I cannot describe this experience more.’ When asked if she would write a song about this journey, she said – yes, I will definitely write.
