On the basis of the strong performance of the bowlers after the brilliant innings of Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler, Gujarat Titans defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 38 runs in the match played at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in IPL2025 on Friday.

Batting first, Gujarat scored 224 runs for the loss of six wickets. In front of this score, the Hyderabad team could only score 186 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs.

This victory has taken Gujarat to the second position in the points table. It has 14 points after seven wins and three losses in 10 matches and has strengthened its playoff claim. At the same time, the path to the playoffs is not closed for Hyderabad in terms of statistics, but it has definitely become very difficult. Hyderabad has six points from three wins and seven losses in 10 matches and now if it has to go to the playoffs, then it must win every match.

Brakes put on Hyderabad batsmen

Given the kind of batting Hyderabad has, it seemed that they could achieve a score of 225 runs, but Gujarat bowlers put a break on Hyderabad’s stormy batsmen. As soon as Head got out on the third ball of the fifth over, Hyderabad’s team went on the backfoot. Head was caught by Rashid Khan off Prasidh Krishna. Head scored 20 runs with the help of four fours in 16 balls. After his departure, the run rate started increasing and under this pressure, Ishan Kishan also returned to the pavilion. He scored 13 runs in 17 balls.

Abhishek’s half-century

Now all the hopes of Hyderabad rested on Abhishek Sharma. He batted brilliantly and completed his half-century by hitting a six on the third ball of the 12th over. He took 28 balls for this. Heinrich Klaasen was with him. Both of them had the responsibility of the team. Abhishek Sharma, who was looking dangerous, was dismissed by Gujarat’s impact player Ishant Sharma.  On the last ball of the 15th over, Abhishek was caught by Mohammad Siraj while trying to play a big shot. He scored 74 runs in 41 balls with the help of four fours and six sixes.

In the next over, Krishna dismissed Klassen and gave another big blow to Hyderabad’s hopes. This batsman scored 23 runs in 18 balls with the help of one four and one six. Siraj opened his account by ending Aniket Verma’s innings and from here Hyderabad’s defeat seemed certain. On the very next ball, Siraj dismissed Kamindu Mendis. Siraj was on a hat-trick but could not complete it. After this, everything seemed certain for Hyderabad, which eventually happened.

Gill-Sudarshan laid the foundation

Gujarat was invited to bat first in this match. Team captain Gill and his opening partner Sai Sudarshan once again gave a strong start to the team. Both added 87 runs for the first wicket.  Sudarshan got out on the fifth ball of the seventh over and missed the half-century by two runs. He scored 48 runs with the help of nine fours in 23 balls. After this, Gill got the support of experienced batsman Jos Buttler. Both took the team’s score to 149 and here Gill’s innings ended through a run out. Gill scored 76 runs with the help of 10 fours and two sixes in 38 balls.

Butler showed his colors

After Gill left, Butler took the responsibility and moved the scoreboard fast. He got out on the fourth ball of the 19th over. He scored 64 runs with the help of three fours and four sixes in 37 balls. Washington Sundar scored 21 runs in 16 balls. Shahrukh Khan remained unbeaten after scoring six runs in two balls. Rahul Tewatia scored only six runs in three balls.
